  1. I have been watching you guys for the past 3 years or so and have learned so much! I have many flower gardens but everything looked like a mess or scattered around, not cohesive at all. A lot of which were donations from friends and family. We retired in June 2023 and my husband and I (mostly him 🤣) revamped our gardens! I had stuff I hated but it grew every year (day lilies and more) so I just left it, but this year I gave a lot away to a friend, kept what I loved and bought a lot of new perennials. I would watch what you planted and researched their care, etc., and finally I think I may have the best garden set up since I started gardening in 1989! I can’t wait for spring to see if everything comes up and how it looks! Keep up the great work!! 🇨🇦

  2. Laura I would like for you to do a tour of your African violets that you have behind you😊

  3. I’ve been gardening since 2018 and the actual gardening part does not bring me joy. I love the design aspect most, picking out plants and seeing my vision come to life over the years. Seeing things thrive and turn out the way I planned is incredible.

So, I would advise people to map things out on paper. It really helps with proper spacing, light requirements, year round interest and complimentary colors. I rarely have to change things once I’ve planted because I plan ahead.

Winter interest in mid west Minnesota is a total non issue for the most part. Usually our flower beds and landscaping is covered under several feet of snow from November till april/may. I still leave many plants over winter to hopefully feed the birds their seeds!

  5. @shelleysilveus6143 March 13, 2025 at 11:58 am

I don’t care about winter interest because I hate winter so much that I never go in my yard during that time. I just took my 1st garden stroll yesterday in many months.

  6. Forgive me if this has been asked before, but where did you get your travel mug?

  7. @beverleysimmons7885 March 13, 2025 at 12:00 pm

Other than evergreens you are not seeing anything in my garden. 5-6’ of snow throughout my 3 acres and only 1-2 winters has this been different. So weeping cedars and pines is what I love

  8. Loved this! And I especially loved your advice about making your garden and garden journey your own and not comparing them to others. Absolutely!

  9. Laura, please do a video for a new construction home that has a tiny backyard. Many of your subs may be like me ….downsizing! 🏡

  10. Loved this…. absolutely wonderful and very helpful, thank you xx

  11. Hey people! Make it 2 million subs already!!! Great channel! Great information! Great family! Awesome content! Make it 2 million subscribers!!! Thank you 👍

  12. @19:42 Having good tools is one of the most important things in gardening. When trying to make bed edges for the for first time, I thought I’d never be able to do it but it turns out I had crappy tools. I got a Sneeboer half moon edger and I’m edging everything now lol

  13. Thank you Laura and Aaron, you could do several more of these videos! Two things, of many I learned from you, is that when a space needs a plant, decide what qualities or look I want that plant to have such as shrub, perennial, annual, color, size, flowering, deciduous, etc. and then look for a plant that has those qualities. The second is, when I’m not sure, use an annual that has the qualities I think I want as a place holder for a season to see if I like it. OK, so three things, when the budget doesn’t allow for filling the garden with all the things the first season, plant the trees and use annuals to fill the rest of the space. Continue to use annuals each year as filler while you add what perennials or shrubs you can afford.

  14. I have learned so much from you over the past years, and this video seems to sum things up! A few years ago I got my first hoselink….game changer! Last year, I got my first pair of Felco gloves…game changer! This year, I got another pair, a hard bottom kangaroo bag and best of all, my first pair of Felco clippers! I’m learning (from you) to invest in things that work well and last more than just one season. And thank you for the very important reminders that if something isn’t working, move it or get rid of it…and to take my time. As much as we want things to be perfect right away, really, how fun would that be?! Thank you, thank you for all you do!

  15. @vallerymartin2474 March 13, 2025 at 12:09 pm

Great video as usual thanks for sharing your knowledge with all of us. So helpful at this time of year when we’re planning our planting season. There’s always something new to learn no matter how long I’ve gardened. ❤

  16. Oh this hits home! We just purchased a fabulous home on a pond. It’s truly amazing except the roses and barberry. I have learned over the years, I don’t like pokie plants! We just purned them all way back as the house is 5 years old and nothing was ever pruned. I will give it a summer and if I still have the same feelings we will take them out. I guess I’m not alone feeling guilty of pulling healthy plants.

  17. I can agree with you Laura on that Fiskars rake & hard bottom bottom kangaroo bag. I ordered both based on your recommendation & have been very happy with both of them. For Mother’s Day last year I ordered myself a Hosereel. Every time I use it, I kinda smile; it’s the best thing since sliced bread IMO. I asked for a pair of left-handed Felcos that fit my smallish hands for Christmas a couple years ago & was very happy to find them under the tree.

  18. This was great!

  19. Such a useful video for me, an all or nothing beginner gardener. Lol Another video that would help me is Renter friendly gardening: where to spend your money. I will be renting for the foreseeable future in zone 4b and I want to make it beautiful while I’m here.

  20. @inspirationsfamiljen March 13, 2025 at 12:14 pm

best advice! Thank you Laura and Aaron!

  21. @pakistanpakistani7869 March 13, 2025 at 12:14 pm

    ❤❤❤❤❤❤

  22. @donnasantamaria8317 March 13, 2025 at 12:15 pm

Aaron’s comment "Buy more trees!" made me laugh! It reminded me of the billboard commercials "Eat more chicken"! I’m with Aaron. I wish I had more property, so I could plant more trees.

  23. What a stand up gal!

  24. I always say the best gardeners killed the most plants. But they keep trying until they get it right!

  25. Hi Laura and Aaron I have had both my knees replaced and you are not supposed to kneel on them. It would be great if someone came up with something that the semi disabled Pearson could have and be comfortable doing the garden with pain free and with ease any ideas? thank you Wendy from Great Britain 🇬🇧 xx

  26. @originalchoochoo March 13, 2025 at 12:18 pm

    Aaron!
First time I laughed out loud on a gardening video.
When Aaron said, #11 Plant a tree.
    That’s your catch phrase Aaron!
You guys should def put that on a hat.
    I will buy it!

  27. Love love LOVE this video. So much helpful and encouraging information. Thank you Laura and Aaron.

  28. Look at us please, it’s weird you talking to Aaron given us advice..

  29. Bear, I had tuna sandwich!!!

  33. @danielle-buzzedgardens March 13, 2025 at 12:24 pm

Abosolutly the best "wish I would have known" video. I have seen this topic covered many many times over my years of gardening and you nailed it with every point. Marked, Saved for later so I can share it with beginers I know. Thank you!

  34. "It’s kind of like telling young people to invest." 😅😅

  35. Love this!! Thank you!!

  36. Loved❤️Loved❤️Loved❤️This video ❤️Thank you bunches

  37. @corbydeforest9013 March 13, 2025 at 12:29 pm

  38. @maryanderson6897 March 13, 2025 at 12:30 pm

I do agree that the right tools make a huge difference! Over time I’ve found tools that make the task easier and gardening more enjoyable. Like the L’Oréal commercial says, I’m worth it!

  39. I love this so much, thank you for this channel, i have learnt so much watching you for many years. x

  40. @gaylerichards7409 March 13, 2025 at 12:33 pm

Very good advice in this video. Thank you!

  41. The fact that you avoided promoting products you are selling makes this video so incredibly enjoyable. Thank you!

  42. Laura thank you so much. Your videos have helped me so much❤. Not just in my garden but also just being a joy to watch . I love seeing the kids grow up

  43. I laughed so hard at the rosemary comment! It took me forever to get mine going as a brand new seed starter last year. I didn’t know this was a hard herb to grow until I finally did some research on it. In the end, I grew big beautiful plants! I was so proud! I did find a zone 6 "Arp" rosemary to buy mid-season, so hopefully, I won’t have to grow it again anytime soon!

  44. @brittany.s_flower_journal March 13, 2025 at 12:38 pm

So true! 💯 Let’s all comment to get this video pushed to the FRONT!!! 🙌

  45. @GrumpyGardenerWI March 13, 2025 at 12:39 pm

Thanks Laura, I whole heartedly agree with adding drip irrigation!!!! I had the hoses and emitters sitting in the basement for years and never committed the time to installing them. Once done it saved me so much time I cursed myself for not having done it when I first thought I would. I work off of a a single outdoor faucet, but added a 4-gang valve to be able to set up zones in the garden. I feel more comfortable with this than having a timer. I can water the areas that need it when I feel it is necessary. It saves me 3hours/week and saves water. JUST DO IT!! You will not regret it. Also, you will rarely regret planting a tree. Thanks Aaron

  46. 22:14 just here to vouch for the 7cf Gorilla cart! Absolute game changer and in my top 5 garden tools for sure.
The pop up bag is also fantastic…the handles broke off of mine but I often left it in the sun and probably had it stuffed too full one too many times 😅. But I still use it!

  47. @marlenemengel3604 March 13, 2025 at 12:41 pm

Yep, go plant a tree. ❤😎

  48. Forgive me if this has been asked before, but where did you get your travel mug?

  49. Do you think drip tape is only good for your area because of the hard water?

  50. @daphnegarrett4529 March 13, 2025 at 12:47 pm

Great advice Laura and Aaron. I’ve watched your videos for a several years. My husband has said "you have really gotten good at this since your watching Garden Answer". Does my heart good when he and others compliment on my flower beds. I really enjoy it and that is thanks to watching your videos. Flowers are my happy place, thank you for sharing your experiences.
