I installed a 10×20 cheapie on Sunday and owned a collapsed GH on Monday- building a wood frame today;).

  2. In 2025, the greenhouse was redesigned. The automatic window vent was moved to the side and off the roof. Also, a window was added and the way the panels are attached to roof are different with added ventilation.

I was just at costco a couple hours ago and saw a greenhouse, don’t know if it was the same one, I think it was a little cheaper, like 1200

Is the Costco greenhouse a year-round greenhouse

  5. @kimberlycoolidge5206 March 13, 2025 at 11:57 am

I attaced my hoop frame to my cyclone fence with Steel zip ties so the wind would never lift it and then i used plastic zip ties to attach the plastic cover to the metal frame. If you look at the plastic sheeting it has a waxy cable criss crossings all through it to keep it from degrading quickly and makeing it a more solid structure…. Use one of the squares to place the zip tie through then wrap it around the metal frame securing the plastic shell to the frame. This will helpthe 4 Velcro that are your only anchor to keep the cover on the frame.

The cover on the amazon hoop house will need changing after the first year, if you are prepared to do that you will be fine as long as you bury the excess 25cm which doubles the rigidity of the structure and is the key to withstanding high winds.

  7. One problem with the hoop house is rodents, very difficult to keep out of the hoop house. Had no idea that mice and chipmunks love orchid bulbs – they knocked all of them off the shelf, breaking their pots, and ate them. They lasted in my polycarbonate greenhouse for a couple of seasons before I moved them to a more shaded hoop house. I paid $750 for the Palram greenhouse kit and it’s lasted for the last 8 years. Hoop house fabric has to come on and off the seasons here in Michigan. For me, greenhouse kit works better and the plants are safer.

  8. Hi Neighbor…I live on the South Shore of Long Island in Suffolk. I’m debating between the 2. I mostly need something for seed starting until they can go in the ground and house my supplies. I’m trying to get the seed starting out of my spare bedroom. Do you think the hoop house would work for that?

  9. I just installed one of these at my house and love it! And yes, I was excited when I saw the roof vent open by itself! Looking forward to many years of usage.

Got an idea to avoid mosquitoes from coming in through the window in ceiling, just staple 2 layers of screen for screen doors on the rafters! So it can open, close as it wants! If this has been mentioned, apologies, I haven’t read all comments! Plus I’d screen door the door. I absolutely hate mosquitoes! 😆

  11. Harbor freight greenhouse for the win. 10’x12′ for $900, currently on sale for $500.

  12. You mentioned there’s no other way to get air in the costco greenhouse except by leaving the door open or the small opening with the screen , I saw a window open on the ceiling , so I was wondering if you added that

  13. The costco house is so expensive, anyone who’s bought it have to pretend they love it

  14. You can put a piece of screening or a screen below the window that opens for the mosquitos

  15. 👍

  16. Great post, sharing!

  17. @pamelaeverett2087 March 13, 2025 at 12:10 pm

Love it. It’s hard to pick. The green house is cute, but ya… pricey!

  18. how much was the cost of the bricks around.

  19. You can call a structure whatever you want but it is not a greenhouse without a heat source!

  20. Thank you for this info.. I just saw the Costco greenhouse and was wondering about it.

Did yo say "My husband and his handsome friend?" lol

  22. Not accurate information- windows are not “clear” as she stated. They are translucent ribbed plastic! Roof vents work with wax that melts when house heats up, causing the hinge to open the vents. When the temperature drops the wax hardens causing the vents to close. This is a common practice with greenhouses.

I live in Florida and we have the King Hoop house. It’s made it through two Hurricanes without issues! 🙂

  24. grrenhouse is only for starting plants not growing a garden . hoop house is for a garden Those policarbonit panels turn yellow after awhile . I know I wanted awnings over my guest shed house I built in 2008 and decided I needed awnings over the windows and door to keep some of the sun overout in the summer months but let it in during the winter . But now it is yellow and ugly . I paid good money for that crap and it started to turn yellow after only 4 years and now is totally yellow pee color . I am building a hoop house like Texas prpper built and his video is on youtube . Cattle panel fence 20 dollars for each panel but warning it is hard to roll up to transport . I used bungee cord and the help of store employees and put them in my truck to bring home . 4×4 ‘s and some 2×4’s and plastic in a roll . Hinges for door Watch his video it is a great source for building it easy . I got some done but rain and cold creeped into VA so now on hold I looked at rural king bill and it came out to less than 100 dollars for panels , plastic roll 100 ft roll and hinges and and latch . Wood at lowes was so far 53.87 . I already had the 4×4’s for the bottom from my carport build years ago .They were stored inm the basement . I also picked up at lowes free a bunch of solid pallets and a whole bunch of wood that they trhough out that is used to hold bundles of wood together with metal straps . I took some of the metal straps just in case I needed them . I had used those same wood pieces a couple of years ago to build a huge wishing well 2 pallets for the roof and the wood bundle holders for the sides . I am cheap and anything free is great for me .

  25. I’ve seen the greenhouse last summer. Costco sells them for $7-800 towards the end of summer.

  26. Too many negatives for that much money, but the design gives one ideas how to do their own.😢😢😢😮

  27. @changingworldllc1157 March 13, 2025 at 12:23 pm

    Thank you!

  28. Love our Yardistry greenhouse. We live in Canada where the price is double at Costco, $2000. We just cleared a foot of snow off the roof, so no hoop house happening here ever.

  29. You could staple or screw a frame of window screen to keep the misquotes out of your auto window. If the arm is in the way, you could make a screen box to go up around it.

  30. I’m thinking about the hoop house soley based on price

  31. I purchased the hoop house kingbird last fall . I thank you for the review.

  32. Thanks for the info on the hoophouse….just bought it from Amazon. I had bought so many hoophouses in the past. They all had very flimsy thin metal legs and were all destroyed by wind. This King one looks thicker.

  33. We own the Costco greenhouse (2nd winter) . We did put a screen ov We e the roof vent and a screen with velcro on the door to keep the bugs out. I keep my wrapped/covered potted figs in the greenhouse in the winter and my strawberry tower. Live in SW Ohio

  34. I like the video and really want the greenhouse, but Costco UK sells only Metal frame houses. I had a greenhouse made of the same type of plastic sheet and a few years the plastic degraded and the tiny little "windows" fell out over a few weeks, like plastic snow. Be careful, its impossible to clean up completely.

  35. I like the Costo greenhouse better but not the price!

  36. Please go Native plants for butterflies and don’t plant butterfly bushs…yes, they attract butterflies but do NOT feed them. No go for our environment, just trash plants.

  37. I bought the Costco greenhouse and live on the Oregon coast. First wind storm, and it was all over the yard in pieces which I had to pick up and return to Costco even in that condition just to get a refund. It’s not for high wind areas!
So I hired a carpenter and had one built and it’s been up for eight years and it was half price.

  38. Unless I missed it, how did you anchor your hoop house? I could see that blowing away in a good storm.

  39. I bought a greenhouse from Vevor for $159. We raised it two feet so I could put tables along the sides. The tables were made by a large shipping crate cut in half. Added 4×4 legs and 2×4 supports. I love it.

  40. @purpledragondc7532 March 13, 2025 at 12:34 pm

They’re both nice. I would definitely purchase the hoop house because of the price.

  41. You can attach a piece of screen maybe to the inside of the roof where it opens maybe? At least for mosquito control.

  42. @LOVETOBEWITHYOU60 March 13, 2025 at 12:37 pm

The plastic green house will blow up with a go9d strong wind. At least it did not work in my state.

  43. definitely going with the Green House. I want an esticically pleasing structure. I wish it was larger. I will have to look into a custom build perhaps using the Costco as a model. Do you have any other design suggestions regarding functionality (shelving/tables/storage)?

  44. i live in oklahoma where the wind moves actual houses, id definitely go for the hoop house here because neither is gonna survive a bad storm lol.

  45. I have the same “hoop house” now three years. I used parachute cord and “tied” it down to eye bolt driven into ground and zig zagged over roof as you would a traditional hoop house. It works great. I heat it in winter

  46. @newlevelgraphicsdavidframe2870 March 13, 2025 at 12:45 pm

That’s gravel not river rock BTW

  47. If you live in the area with snakes problem then Costco greenhouse might become their resting or nesting place. They can get in through vents at night. The last thing you want to see in your greenhouse is a snake. The Amazon type hoop house is a nonsense. Too cold in winter and too hot and humid in Summer. I had one before with zero success despite being an avid gardener with years of experience.

  48. I don’t buy from Amazon!

  49. After spending $500 on plants for my garden, I decided to get a cheap temu hoop house. It took 90 minutes to put together. I framed 2×6’s to go on the inside and zip tide the hoop house to it. I also looped rope over top to secure the cover to the frame as others do with larger setups. It sets between two larger buildings and will have ibc totes on one side to minimize the wind on it. I’m pleased with it so far.

  50. @patriciakeys4873 March 13, 2025 at 12:50 pm

I haven’t purchased the Costco greenhouse but I did purchase a hoop house from Amazon. I live in Oklahoma. My hoop house survived the Spring, which means here, tornado season. But. In the middle of summer we had a wind event that is called a straight line wind which crumpled the frame. We had used those screw-in anchors and that prevented the hoop house from blowing away, which is why it crumpled instead. We had to cut it apart to remove it. So… if you live in a high wind area, like the central plains, make sure you get one that can withstand the wind.
